Douglas ‘Doc’ Haldane celebrated his 91st birthday with a game of golf at Elderslie yesterday. And it was a real family affair as he was joined by his three sons, Vice-Captain Colin, Past-Captain Alan, and Kenny, and by three of his five grandsons, Garry, Chris, and Fraser. He quipped, “it’s great to see the boys out playing at the club I joined in 1953. Playing 13 was enough for me – the hills are much steeper these days.”
The Haldanes are one of a number of families with Elderslie memberships spanning the generations and the club are delighted to have so many sons and, increasingly now, daughters of members joining our wonderful club. Alan and Colin joined the club as juniors in 1970 and Douglas’ family is setting the bar high as far as family-patronage of the club goes as they add this momentous family event to this year’s Burns Supper where they attended as a table of 10 Haldane-men.
