New Display in Clubhouse
This week saw the opening of a new display in the clubhouse. It recognises the achievements of Stuart Murray and Stephen McAllister, two of Elderslie’s finest ever golfers, both of whom came through the junior ranks at the club. It is hoped that the display will, among other things, help inspire our current juniors to set and achieve their own golfing goals. The display also features many items of interest from the club’s archives and illustrates some of our club’s proud, 100+ years of history. Stuart and Stephen are pictured at the display with Club Captain Robert Reilly. Stuart was dominant in amateur golf in the 1950s and ’60s — culminating in his Scottish championship success when he beat Ronnie Shade 2 and 1 in the final at Muirfield in 1962. Playing No. 1 for GB&I in the 1963 Walker Cup at Turnberry, his success included a 3 and 1 victory over Deane Beman who was later to become commissioner of the US PGA. Stephen’s exceptional success came in the 1980s and ’90s. Encouraged by victory as an amateur in the world-ranked Lytham Trophy of 1983, he then stepped up to the professional ranks. Further triumphs followed in the glorious year of 1990 when he won two tournaments on the PGA European Tour: The Atlantic Open and The Dutch Open. Later that year he joined Sandy Lyle and Sam Torrance in the three-man Scottish team for the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews. Stuart had asked that a trophy he donated be played for by novice juniors who may not […]

Juniors major part of Final day
The finals day brought 3 juniors onto the course to fight for a win, Heather Mushet, Jack Burns and Josh Campbell were all playing in this special day. Heather was so close to winning the Ladies Championship, narrowly loosing on the 1st extra hole, what an effort and without a doubt Heathers name will be on the winners board soon. Josh and Jack were playing in the Campbells trophy final, and again what a game, all square down the 18th Josh won it with the final putt (an impressive par). Jack was gracious in defeat giving Josh nothing but encouragement all the way round. The day once again highlighted the positive and growing junior set up we have within the club.
