• Junior Update

Hi, My name is Craig Campbell and I am currently supporting the junior set up with phenomenal assistance from Scott, James and various parents.  Our aspiration is to get the juniors (at all levels) to enjoy golf, get out on the course and when ready get that much desired handicap.  The past few months has witnessed great determination from the juniors, braving the brisk Scottish weather to play in the Sunday medal teeing off at 11am.  Although no official junior medal is currently running (as with all medals) the tee remains available for the juniors to keep their game in shape, please feel free to turn up, book a time and show your Mum, Dad, Guardian how determined you are!  If parents wish to know more please do not hesitate to contact either myself or Scott for details of the junior set up and aspiration. We held our first Junior Committee meeting Nov 14 which was well represented with the junior committee taking full ownership.  Additional attendees were myself, Scott and David Burns (future Captain).  Numerous items were discussed by the juniors with David taking the relevant points to the AGM.  The below points were approved/discussed: Juniors are now allowed in snooker room when playing with a senior adult (over 21) The club has kindly approved the purchase of polo shirts for both the Junior Captain/Vice Captain and the Newton Shield team. Newton Shield team were discussed, with a proposed team being picked. Terms of Reference were accepted for Junior Captain/Vice Captain. Dedicated clubhouse space […]

  • Junior Captain and Vice Captain

Jorg Irvine Junior Captain I have been a member of Elderslie golf course for over 2 years now and have enjoyed playing the course and challenge to improve my handicap. I am very honoured to have been voted in as the Captain and hope to support the Club Captain and shop Professional as best I can.  I have reduced my handicap from 32 to 5 in 2 years,  so to all budding juniors “it can be done” with determination, hard work and support from family and friends.  I was lucky enough to be accepted in the Scottish Golf Academy and hope one day to win a Scottish boys event. Please come and say hello when you are around the course and clubhouse, I look forward to representing the juniors over the coming year.   Ben Campbell Junior Vice Captain I have been a member of Elderslie golf course for 3 years now and have enjoyed every minute.  I am so happy and privileged to be chosen as the Junior Vice Captain and in doing so hope to support all the juniors as well as Jorg Irvine the Junior Captain. Last year I won “best improved handicap” as I dropped my handicap from 32 to 13, this took lots of practice, playing and determination. I hope all of you will get the handicaps you desire, which can be achieved if you want it enough. Please come and introduce yourself to me, so I can meet you and say Hi, if any juniors have any questions about […]

  • Junior Development – Update

The junior organisation continues to grow with 20 players attending the Nov. 14th medal. A junior committee meeting was conducted Tue 25th with several proposals being raised.  These proposals will be further discussed at the club’s general committee meeting this week. A report will be available shortly. Mats are now required on the fairway (not from the rough), the club has kindly purchased 4 for the juniors to use on the 4 hole medal. If players are playing 18 it is recommended they purchase a mat from Pro shop (£13). 1 x mat will be given to the eldest of the group playing 4. We have already lost 1 so we ask the nominated holder of the mat to please take care and to try not to lose it. We are looking at alternative options for some of our more novice players who currently play 4 holes. This will likely involve some activities on the practice area to help prepare these future stars and make sure they are ready to play the full course. Lessons are going well with Scott fully involved. It is recommended when buying golf balls that the adult buys 50 @ £4 with the child then getting another 50 for half price @ £2. This will means 100 balls will cost £6. Note that most times 50 balls do not last the hour. Lessons next week 02 & 04 Dec, will be amalgamated to the Wed @ 6pm. This will be in the clubhouse (and NOT at the driving range) where […]
